  1. Effective Appraisal
I was responsible for performance appraisal in the the largest public sector agency (70,000 staff) for a while and connected with the policy and strategy for it for some time. I’d be happy to share my observations and experience with you if you’re interested. Get in touch with me by email at sue.porter@cwcom.net

  4. Appraisals
Having just helped a Client (plc with 750 people) put in a performance development review process, might I suggest the following (taking it that you do not have the process in the first place) –

    1. Get someone who is a good facilitator to get a Focus Group of staff and some middle managers together and get them to suggest that an appriasal process is what they want.

    2. Get the person to have the group design the format – but knowing what the Directors actually want, doing it to please both parties.

    3. Train everyone who is to run them, not just on the process but on questioning and listening and setting SMART objectives.

    4. If logisticsand the budget will stand it, have a short trraining session for everyone, so that tey get the best out of it.

I did this for my Cients and we ran one round which was good, then had the Group fine tune it and this past round was received very well and has been a major factor in them getting Investors in Peoople.

I am quite happy to talk to you some more if you wish – and yes, I am available for Consultancy, Training, Barmitzvahs, Golden Weddings etc!
