We have very large a service contract and need to ensure that the client facing staff (who don't have legal backgrounds)have a good grasp of how the contract works.

We've got an in-house lawyer who has the in-depth technical knowledge but what methods would people recommend for passing this knowledge on.

    Hi

I often come across this problem when delivering equality and employment law details. I use the following techniques, depending on the audience:-

    1. Issue everyone with an exercise book. Ask them to use the back for a glossary of terms and code to abbreviations. THey are to record these terms as the day progresses. At the end (40 mins) carry out an audit of what everyone has got. Why not draw up a bingo card – legal bingo – which delegates tick off once satisfied that the term they’ve found in the room matches the right description.Plenary feedback to fsacilitate corrections vital

    2. A legal quiz,using multiple choice answers

    3. Talk and Chalk on a concept/clause, followed by YOU THE JURY. Whats your verdict on this scenario?

    4. Policy Brainstorm. After session on a vital concept/clause, have the teams busy drawing up a policy document in that area touching base on the vital legal or technical details

    Good luck!

You mention the lawyer is very knowledgeable technically but do mention if he is able to train others. From your original posting of this message it would appear that perhaps the problem you have is with this technical lawyer NOT being able to train the staff you need training.
It could be that if you train him to train you solve your problem !
