I give Inductions to all new starters at the firm of solictors that i work for. I assess thier IT skills and provide them training in the areas that are missing. What is the best way (fun and interesting for the trainee) to assess and provide training in Inductions?

I would first suggest you contact John Salt of DLA (www.dla.com), one of the UK’s top legal firms. His training department won both ‘Training Department of the Year’ and ‘Internal Training Project of the Year’ at this year’s IITT Awards, so he may have some useful suggestions.
Second, I would suggest when assessing skills that the assessment needs to be as little like a test or exam as possible. If it’s end user skills assessment you’re looking for, you might investigate e-Skills UK’s e-skills passport: http://www.e-skills.com/cgi-bin/wms.pl/220. It’s quite good fun and well designed, and produces information against a national standard. If you get in touch with e-skills UK they would be interested in hearing of what you’re doing, I’m sure, and help you make the most of using the passport.
