Does anyone know of any guidelines which are available to enable someone to provide a job reference. Specifically, this enquiry is from a school governor who has to provide a reference for a teacher in a school?

Tina, can you be more specific regarding your requirements please?
I am able to advise regarding the following issues:
legal aspects, of which there are many;
do’s and don’ts of responding to written requests for a reference;
do’s and don’ts of responding to telephone requests for a reference.
A fundamental point is that a reference should be provided by the person who is authorised to perform this function in the organisation.
