Icebreakers & Energizers for Team Day

default-16x9

Hi there

I'm looking for an icebreaker for a team day for 14 people, some of which are new to the team. The outcome I need is to encourage them to work as a team and inject some energy and humour to set the scene for the day. It needs to be quick, no more than 15 minutes. In addition I need an energiser for the same group for after lunch to get them into the mind set to create a strategy for the year ahead.

Can anyone help?

  1. Team exercise
    Hi Karen

A good one for the start of a team day is to get a long bamboo pole (you’ll get them very cheaply from a garden centre). Split the group into two and line them up facing each other. They should extend their index fingers so that they are touching the person’s opposite (side by side, not tip to tip)and they should do so for the duration of the exercise. Lay the bamboo pole on top of their fingers. The object of the exercise is for them to lower the pole to the floor. Their fingers must be in contact with the pole at all times. They invariably lift the pole rather than lower it. Good fun, and the moral is that even though they think they are working as a team and they all have the same goal, it doesn’t always work.
