incentives to learning for employees

default-16x9

I am studying for a Professional Doctorate at Middx Uni. The Corporation of London offers financial help to any City Worker who wishes to learn any subject, anywhere. I am looking at the impact of this scheme on learners, on the employer and the education provider. If any one is aware of similar asssistance (time off /financial help etc) given to employees in companies I'd be grateful if they could contact me so I could discuss the benefits and concerns. Many thanks

  1. Joint Venture with local college
One of the sites within our manufacturing group has an agreement with their local college. The Company pays an agreed, fixed, annual fee and for this, their employees can sign up for a course of their choice for free, as long as their attendance is outside of working hours.

  2. try rover at longbridge
Rover at longbridge had was one the early companies doing this sort of work and have learnt a lot of lessons.

as a source of information the DTI have a directory of organisations that welcome visits based on particular subject areas.

  3. Small scale example
I ran an ‘outside learning’ scheme within a small company for 2 years, whereby we offered up to £200 per year towards learning in employees’ own time. The only stipulation was that the learning should be ‘new’ and something that could be put on one’s CV – whether academic, employment-related or a hobby. The scheme was highly successful, with 50% of staff taking up the opportunity. There were many benefits which I would be happy to discuss with you. Our staff learned just about everything from marketing to driving to how to trace their family tree. The largest and perhaps most unexpected benefit was in recruitment – potential new recruits loved the idea and were falling over themselves to join the company as a result.
