Interview questions for L&D role

default-16x9

I am looking for interview questions appropriate to a junior L&D role. The post holder will be involved in training design and delivery within their organisation at lower levels as part of a small team and applicants will have a variety of experience ranging from a lot to a little. I will be asking interviewees to deliver a short training session but need help with questions for a conventional interview. Thanks!

  1. Interview

    Hannah

Why not just get one of the more senior L & D people in to conduct that part of the interview? It would be failrly obvious for someone who does this for a living to determine if the candidate was suitable for your organisations particular needs?

And more importantly…much fairer for the candidate to be assessed correctly.

    Good luck

  2. Covering all your bases

    Design
Tell us about a time when you’ve had to be creative in problem solving.
Explain how you would deal with a challenge over copyright.

    Delivery
Describe how you would manage conflict between participants.
Tell us about what you would do to prepare for a training session.

    Evaluation
How do you check the quality of your designed materials?
How have you evaluated the success of training (or projects) in the past.

All suffixed with ‘…and how would you do it in this role.’

  3. Use what you’ve already got…

    Hi Hannah.

I would suggest that you use the training session you are asking them to prepare and deliver for the interview as a mini case study for further questioning.  So ask them how they went about designing it, how they would evaluate the learning, how they might expand the session for a longer period of time or a larger audience, etc.  If you use this as a base point you can really explore their thinking, using a live example rather than just hypotheticals.

    Hope this helps,

    Eleanor.
