I need a simple Media Player to create screen recordings for IT instructions that we can email to all of our end users.
I have evaluated Camtasia and Quarbon without ease of use.
I cannot install software on the user's end.

Simple screen recorder
Hi Paul,
you could try Lotus ScreenCam if it is still available. I believe that it records what is happening on your PC screen, allows you to record a voice-over and stores the whole thing as a .avi file which can then be played back on any PC without special software being loaded. However, it does create large files as the .avi compression rate is not too sophisticated.
I know that there is a Microsoft equivalent called Camcorder and this allows you to record the screen activity as a .avi file or store your movie as a .exe file for exporting to other machines – The advantage being that people who receive the .exe file can play the movie without having Camcorder installed on their computer. This product was shipped with MS Office 97 but I am not sure about Office 2000 or Office XP. You can get details of this product from the Microsoft website at

Good luck.

Someone I work with used a programme called Viewlet Builder which you can download a shareware version of from here: http://www.qarbon.com/ its a bit pricey but with the shareware one you can quite happily use it for
as long as you like.
