...a new piece of software at work, or more accurately, a new version of some software I currently use. Final Cut Pro X is a pretty extreme departure from any previous versions. My initial reaction to seeing the interface/home screen was to stare blankly at it for a while and wonder whether I had the right software. It looks nothing like Final Cut Pro 5,6,7 or whatever you're used to working with. After a few minutes of floundering and delaying the realisation that I would have to pick this up somehow, otherwise I wouldn't be editing videos anymore, I opened that wonderful free resource for learning, YouTube, and found some tutorials.
Worryingly, the FCPX genius who put the clips together kept referring to '...when you upgrade from iMovie', and providing scant reference to '...if you're used to Final Cut Pro 5' or whatever. Obviously I thought that if their market was now iMovie users then it meant that they'd dumbed it down and stripped away a lot of the functionality. iMovie is a decent program but it's a lot more basic than FCP. But with a bit of digging around and a few trial goes, I realised that it's still pretty amazing (Other editing programs are available, of course), and has some new cool filters, presets and exciting bells and whistles when you get deep in there. Soon, you'll be able to judge for yourself, as next week you will get to see the fruits of my labour as we publish our TrainingZone Live 2012 vox pops.
At the risk of sounding like Michael Eavis, TrainingZone Live 2012 was our best one yet. Feedback was extremely positive and we had glowing reviews of some of the sessions, as well as Steve Backley's closing keynote which left everyone going into the drinks energised and excited. He stuck around to chat to a few delegates too which was nice to see, and the pervading atmosphere in not only the gathering at the end of the day but throughout the day too was very complimentary indeed, from both an organisational and a delegate perspective. It certainly give us a lot to think about for next year. Keep em peeled for more info later in the year.
