Language & Cultural awareness training

default-16x9

The Australian Government has tendered for a national language and cultural awareness training initiative targting business working internationally. Major aims are to support business & industry with the skills to be able to negotiate business in overseas markets, with some basic language skills, an understanding of the key cultural issues that impact on communication and living / working in other cutlures; and an understanding of the cultural factors that influence business. Does anyone know of any UK (or other) institutions / companies / resources that work in this field?

    Hi Sue,

thinking-people is a learning consultancy that specialises in cross-cultural and diversity training. We have more than 15 years experience in facilitating cross-cultural training so may be able to help you!

Both partners of thinkingpeople have spent substantial periods of time in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. We have also worked on cross-cultural awareness training with participants from a wide range of nationalities from Tanzanians to Sri Lankans.

We can support learning on issues such as ‘negotiating across cultures’, ‘cross-cultural, communication’, ‘women working abroad’ to name but a few!

We could also refer you to the latest research in the field (Fons Trompenaars, Hofstede, Lewis etc) whch we find greatly informs our work.

Drop me a line on info@thinking-people.co.uk or give me a call on 07977 163655 and we can talk further.

    Best wishes,

    Jo Bloxham

  2. Developing cultural awareness
    Hi Sue

We have developed some powerful workshop materials to develop understanding of national cultural differences. These are based on Trompenars work on seven dimensions of culture(“Riding the Waves of Culture”) Also involves using actors to improvise business scenarios involving a mix of different nationalities – funny and thought-provoking. The group are fully engaged in advising the actors, in role, to resolve differences based on culture.
Can talk you through some of the options and recommend people.
