Learned Helplessness

default-16x9

Take a look at this piece of video beautifully illustrating the concept of learned helplessness through class room  based experiential learning. Does anyone have any other great clips from YouTube they'd like to share?

  1. great resource, beautiful demonstration, and an interesting sub

and…did anyone see the TV drama last night, "Hattie"…..Hattie Jaques, talking about her husband, John Le Mesurier, said that he had learned that if he deliberately appeared useless at a task then he avoided being given that task to do, this was an especially effective tactic of his to avoid tasks he didn’t like….the flipside of "learned helplessness"

There is also "learned dependence", not as debilitating as "learned helplessness" but often a direct result of authoritarian or paternalistic/maternalistic management style……..which of course then perpetuates it!

PS I don’t tend  (yet) to visit youtube that often so I (currently) have no recommendations, sorry!

  2. A short video that could accompany a programme on……

    …technology roll out

    …branding and naming of brands

    …language and communication

    …jargon

    or possibly even customer service!
