and…did anyone see the TV drama last night, "Hattie"…..Hattie Jaques, talking about her husband, John Le Mesurier, said that he had learned that if he deliberately appeared useless at a task then he avoided being given that task to do, this was an especially effective tactic of his to avoid tasks he didn’t like….the flipside of "learned helplessness"
There is also "learned dependence", not as debilitating as "learned helplessness" but often a direct result of authoritarian or paternalistic/maternalistic management style……..which of course then perpetuates it!
