Learning Portal Research

default-16x9

Hello everyone

I am undertaking market research for my company who are defining a strategy for launching a business to business learning portal this year.

This is not a sales pitch, so I will not be following up any responses (unless you request me to).

Basically I would like feedback from:
People who have used a learning portal
Companies who are considering an e learning strategy
Producers who deliver their products via a portal

Information I would like:
What were your experiences good/bad?
Type of material offered (IT/soft skills)?
Do you believe portals can add to the learning process?
What services other than courses should be offered?

Thanks to anyone who can help

One Response

  1. Learning Portals etc.
    Hi Gareth

Thanks for your response to my question – I shall drop you an email separately later.

In terms of answering your own submission:
I am product manager for Training (UK) for large software company (I will divulge which one in my email to you later) and we are just beginning to develop and refine our e-learning strategy. I have looked at 7 products that may be able to assist us in delivereing e-training to potentially all our 400,000 strong customer base, via our own Learning Portal. I will then construct some market research and set up some focus groups to try and define accurately what our customers require and hence develop/choose a product that fits etc.

My experience to date is that “its a jungle out there”!! I am looking to offer live or recorded product simulations / interactions via our portal, with tutor support. I now believe our best way of furthering this is to start with something small and that we know works, trial something and test it out on our focus groups. We can then develop the model and look ahead to 2 – 3 years time. Eventually, I would like to employ some sort of web collaboration tool which would be great for delivering seminars to our network of resellers as well as training to our customers/end users.

What I have found when I talk to potential “partners” is that they often talk about Intranet solutions and delivering training to internal staff. This is not what I am interested in – I need something where our external customers can use a 56k modem and dial-up for web-delivered training. I am also keen (since this is just a toe in the water) to keep costs down and want to develop the content and author the courseware in-house, rather than pay loads of money for companies to do this for us (as my experience is also that this is what companies like to offer and it costs £££’s!!)

    I hope this helps.

    Graeme
