“Let’s Talk” 1-day program for store executives

Hi

Looking for some interesting ideas for creating a day's training for junior store sales staff who donot engage with the customers to start a conversation. The methodlogy has to be interactive, fun and meaningful.

  1. Compare the Market…

Why not set them to do some pre-work before attending?  Get them to visit some of the competition on the high street (obviously not where they are known!) and get them to report back.  What did it feel like being pounced on?  What did it feel like being ignored?  How can we provide a different level of service to our competitors?  All that said, if some people are chronically shy, it makes you wonder how they got a sales job in the first place!

  2. The Ice Breaker Game

This activity involves two students, one plays a customer and one is a sales person. Take the customer to one side and give them an item such as a hat or a badge a scarf or some shoes a brolly maybe and two bits of information about them ( i.e. the brolly was their Grans and its a magic wand). The sales person has to bring the item into the conversation and find out the two facts about the item that the customer has with them. The sales person learns how to look at the customer and associate items they have with them to start a conversation.

  3. Create an advert

Get them to create an advert for their shop/department. It will get them thinking through all the good things that they can say and give them some words to use
