For her degree, my daughter needs to write a 4000 word essay on "What might hinder a person from becoming a lifelong learner? Suggest some ways to overcome these hindrances."
Any help with websites, book references, and of course, the vast experience of the folks who read these questions would be very much appreciated.

One book of interest on (lifelong) learning
The book “Learning As A Way Of Being” by Peter B. Vaill is an excellent source of information and insight into the world of (lifelong)learning. I think your daughter will find it a rich source of challenging comment on barriers to learning and the strategies required to succeed.

lifelong learning
How about “Mum not letting you do the research yourself” (only joking). Try looking on http://www.lifelonglearning.dfee.gov.uk/ for a range of links and info.
lifelong learning and discrimination
The TUC is very keen promoter of lifelong learning, but is concerned about some of the discrimination faced by potential learners which prevents them from fulfilling their potential. I have recently published an article on the site that covers some of this ground http://www.learningservices.org.uk/national/learning-2251-f0.cfm
