Management Standards

default-16x9

For my CIPD CTP Project I'm planning on comparing my civil service organisations New Manager Programme against either:

1. The Chartered Management Institute Certificate in Management

2. S/ NVQ Level 3 in Management

or

3. A non civil service organisations New Manager Programme (or it's equivalent)

If you can help me in any way I'd love to hear from you.

  1. National Management Standards

National Management Standards are published by the Management Standards Centre (formerly MCI) and they can be found at http://www.management-standards.org/ Similarly CIPD publish a similar framework to members. Nearly all the examination boards will publish specifications for the relevant NVQ’s. Hope it’s useful. Good luck with the CTP Project

  2. Thanks Peter
From what you are telling me Peter my understanding is that all management standards are taken from this standards set by the Management Standards Centre. Is this correct?

The main national standards for management are those indicated below. Many organisations base their own standards on these but not all.
You might also like to look at:

http://psg.civilservice.gov.uk/ – PSG will probably apply to your new managers in the very near future if not already.

I’m not sure exeactly how they are all derived but they bear an uncanny resemblance to one another. I do know that the current Management Standards Centre resulted from an Organisation called the Management Charter Initiative (MCI) which was started probably 12 years ago and MCI published a standards set at Supervisory, Management, Senior Management and Exec Level (if I remember correctly). I guess for the purposes of your project as long as you choose a comparator at the right level and stick with it its probably not going to matter.
