MBTI and DISC Certification

MBTI and DISC are personality assessment tools used in professional development. MBTI focuses on psychological preferences and cognitive patterns, while DISC measures behavioral styles and communication tendencies. Both offer certification paths for learning and development professionals, each with distinct applications in workplace training and team dynamics.

I would like to know the differences between MBTI and DISC profiling tools. How would that apply to learning and development? Which one is a better choice ( in terms of application) for getting certified? Appreciate if anyone who’s certified in either one to share your thoughts.

Many thanks and kindest regards,
Alice Ma

  1. MBTI
I am qualified in MBTI and also in the Management Team Roles Indicator (MTRi) which I find a useful follow-on, similar to Belbin. I have found MBTI useful in team development, especially in identifying the strengths and potential weaknesses in teams and also in appreciation of diversity. I can’t comment on DISC. I find the risk with MBTI is that people can feel pigeon-holed rather than see their preferences as a dynamic process and challenged to develop their weaker preferences.
    Hope that helps.
