Microsoft release details about the .NET Certification

Microsoft has released details about the long-awaited .NET certification. Microsoft Certified Application Developer for .Net (MCAD) and Microsoft Certified Solution Developer for .NET (MCSD).

The new .Net tracks are aimed at those who specialise in “department-level applications, components, Web or desktop clients, or back-end data services or work in teams developing enterprise applications”.

In order to obtain the MCAD.NET track, delegates are required to pass three exams from the following:

One Web or Windows Application Development exam:


  • 70-315, Developing and Implementing Web Applications with Visual C# .NET and visual Studio .NET

  • 70-305, Developing and Implementing Web Applications with Visual Basic .NET and Visual Basic .NET and Visual Studio .NET

  • 70-306, Developing and Implementing Windows – based Applications with Visual Basic .NET Visual Studio.NET

  • 70-316, Developing and Implementing Windows-based Applications with Visual C# .NET and Visual Studio .NET

One Web Services and Server Components exam:


  • 70-310, Developing Web Services and Server Components with Visual Basic . NET and Visual Studio .NET

  • 70-320, Developing Web Services and Server Components with Visual C# and Visual Studio .NET

One elective from the following:


  • 70-305, 70-315, 70-306, 70-316 – if has not been counted as a core module

  • 70-229, Designing and Implementing Databases with SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition

  • 70-230, Designing and Implementing Solutions with BizTalk Server 2000, Enterprise Edition

  • 70-234, Designing and Implementing Solutions with Commerce Server 2000

As for the MCSD. NET, delegates are required to pass five exams. The above are also compulsory however a Web AND Windows Application Developing exam must be passed plus an additional examination: 70-300, Analysing Requirements and Defining .NET Solution.

It is expected Microsoft will release most of the exams in beta form by June 2002. Therefore delegates will have to wait until next year before they can become MCSD .NET certified.
