Music for a conference?

default-16x9

I am organising a teambuilding event for a conference, and am looking for some motivational music. Any suggestions?

    Hi Mandy,

Without a doubt, it has to be Tubular bells, by Mike Oldfield! Whilst the same person plays all the instruments, I believe it is an excellent example of building individually to form a collective!

    Consider the copyright implication though.

    Good luck!

    Kind regards,

    Clive

“Simply the Best by Tina Turner” or “We are the Champions”. An alternative could be anything by George Formby!

    Hi Mandy,

rather than using songs, instrumental music usually works quite well as I have used some before for audio-visual presentations. You could try some of Jean-Michel Jarre of which there are various albums of his “best stuff” including an album called “the essential”.One of his pieces is called Magnetic Fields No. 5 (I think)plus there are some good pieces on his “Rendez-Vous” album.
    Hope this helps

  4. Motivational Music
    Hi Mandy,

This is a subject close to my heart having just completed research on the use of music in training.

    Try:

    Teamwork
Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – M Gaye
    Help – The Beatles
Stand By Me – Ben E King
We Are Family – Sister Sledge

    Self Esteem
    Don’t Stop – Fleetwood Mac
Don’t Worry Be Happy – Bobby McFerrin
    Express Yourself – Madonna
    Stayin Alive – Bee Gees
    True Colours – Cindi Lauper

I can recommend this book whole-heartedly – Lenn Millbower, Training With A Beat. Stylus Publihing. Available through Amazon.

    Best wishes,

    Nick Varney

  5. Search for the Hero..
by M-People, is a must – just listen and you will understand.

  6. Motivational Music
As Geoff said, MPeople are great for this type of music. In addition to ‘Search for the Hero’ try ‘Moving on up’.

Also, Heather Small’s (from MPeople) single ‘Proud’ is worth listening to.

Just one point to note is that if the team is an international one, be aware that what may be well known in the UK does not always apply in Europe/USA. Therefore instrumental is sometimes easier to address this issue

  8. Why not create your own?
M – I’ve been to a Sewa Beats taster session and they’re fantastic. Very motivational and totally team orientated – they’ve done it for Shell, Cisco and One2One – contact details for Doug Manuel are….

    Hi Mandy,

ultimately, you need to think if the music you choose fits your existing/desired company culture and what might suit one group could fail with another. I would also suggest staying away from the cliched tracks, some of which are suggested in the previous messages you have had. Another issue is copyright. If you are playing a pre-recorded CD in a public place then either you or the venue need a licence from the Performing Rights Society. If you put a music track to a video or graphical sequence (and copy the track so you can synchronise it) then you need the permission of the music publisher too – it’s a minefield and can be very expensive.

Why not have a piece written just for you that meets your pre-determined criteria for style, duration, pace, etc. This is not as expensive as it sounds and you know then you own the rights to use the music. If you like this idea, contact DVA at http://www.dva.co.uk or phone David Stewart on 01256 882032 and feel free to tell him I suggested you call.

I have used DVA on 4 separate occasions for bespoke music and video/graphics production and found them to be very good.

Good luck and please let me know how you get on.
