Negotiation and Influencing Training Game

default-16x9

Does anybody have any ideas for an exercise for senior nhs managers in the NHS. The exercise needs to last for a couple of hours, be active and competitive?

  1. Negotiation Exercise
A couple of exercises I have used in the past:

Give every individual a different role and need, I’ve never worked in the NHS so you would need to adapt this but examples I have used in the past are Sales Manager needs a sales conference for team of 80 staff, Fleet Manager needs to update all company cars, IT Manager needs to send IT team on Project Skills training. Then tell them that this years budget has been underspent by £100,000 and they are to decide as a team who gets the money. Lasts about 1 hour with 30 – 45 minutes at end for feedback.

Alternatively cribbed from somewhere else, not sure where but it has been around more years than I’ve been training is the lifeboat game. Again give all individuals a different role, I normally have 12 year old child, single dad, pregnant woman, olympic rower, motivational speaker, vicar, Dr with a cure for a disease, boxer etc. Then tell them the lifeboat is sinking and they need to lose three people if the rest are to survive. They then have to negotiate to stay in the lifeboat.

Hope these help – if all else fails resort to Monopoly. You can adapt this to all sorts of negotiation techniques.
