New books for book club: January

default-16x9

It's the first book club post of 2013, and the first of the new site too! Doubly exciting. As you may have noticed this is not a discussion group post, it's a blog post. But the idea is the same - leave a comment beneath to be in with a chance of reviewing.

BEING MORE CONFIDENT by Robert Kelsey

UNBRIDLED SUCCESS by Julia Felton

THE SCIENCE OF SERENDIPITY by Matt Kingdon

Happy reviewing!

  1. Help us out!

Book Club is a great idea.  It would be very helpful if there were a short summary or link to the book summary (Amazon?) so that we have some idea what the book may be about before offering to review it.  Unbridled success looked like an interesting title to me, but I saw the picture and thought it may be about the learning preferences of horses, which would be of no interest to me!  Thanks.

  2. Blog Post Review

I am intrigued by this approach as I feel that peer reviewing might be accepted as a truer reflection of the content and quality of the books highlighted in the Training Zone website.

For example, I sometimes harbour the unfounded suspicion that professional reviewers may be invited ‘out to lunch’ by publishers or authors so as to ensure a positive write-up in the journal, website or newspaper they represent.

Another important aspect in all this is the idea that peers are actually involved in the business of training, building teams and helping change processes within or across organisations. As such they can comment, with some authority, on the practicability of the information or insights offered in these new publications.

I look forward to seeing how this will all pan-out on the Training Zone website.

  3. Book reviews

Hi I would be interested in reviewing Robert Kelsey's book. Looks like it would be useful for me and to share with the teams I work with. Thanks

  4. thanks for the responses
Lindsey – book on the way. Please DM me your postal address. We ask that you mail back with a review in two weeks of receipt. Dave – good idea about a synopsis, will post something now…

  5. Book Club review

    Hi,

I'd be really interested in reviewing these books. I also have some ideas on other books to review. A slightly different angle here but I really rate the pocket book series and recently read Learning and the Brain, and thought it was excellent.

There is also a book out called Stretch – Leading Beyond Boundaries which is about taking a strengths approach to increasing performance of both yourself and teams.

Two great books I'd love to see reviewed.

    Thanks,

    Steph
