IMS have published new "Guidelines for Developing Accessible Learning" to coincide with the new law in the US (Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act), where all federal Websites are now required to make content and programs offered on their Intranet and Internet sites accessible to all. Given that the UK also has legislation requiring information to be accessible to those with disabilities, and the EU is looking to enforce Europe-wide legislation on this topic, it is worth reviewing the IMS publication.
The new IMS guidelines are both readable and full of useful information, including an overview of the principles of accessibility as well as specific guidelines in areas such as user interfaces, asynchronous collaboration tools, media delivery and testing and assessment.
