Over 150,000 European academics and students are set to use Hyperwave's eKnowledge Infrastructure to collaborate across the Europaeum network. The new 'Europaeum Knowledge Centre' knowledge management network will link seven major European academic institutions, including the University of Oxford, to create a powerful knowledge exchange and communications resource. The Europaeum is an academic association created to promote collaborative academic study in fields such as European Law, History, Politics and Economics.
The Europaeum Secretary-General, Dr Paul Flather commented: "The Internet has revolutionised the way academics do their work. It has changed the very approach to learning and unlocking knowledge databases and resources. Of course the full potential of this revolution still lies ahead, but our new Knowledge Centre is one more step along the road".
The Europaeum was developing a similar project before implementing Hyperwave's system. Terry Johnson, project manager, explained, "Our partnership with Hyperwave has saved us considerable time and effort in terms of development and execution and has allowed us to focus on our core aim of bringing together academics and students across Europe."The Europaeum Knowledge Centre will encourage and facilitate greater academic collaboration throughout Europe. All students and faculty will be able to create a personal workspace, upload papers, publish work, consult reading lists, reference library catalogues, communicate and collaborate with colleagues through one single common resource. Each student and academic will have access to these facilities whenever and wherever they want - a facility vital to exchange students and visiting professors - both within the seven Europaeum universities and through the internet.
