Planning and Strategy

default-16x9

Hi all,

This is my first question on TZ.

I am a Trainer for a New Media Agency and am looking for a Planning and Strategy course for a colleague and hoped that you might be able to help point me in the right direction?

My colleague has very strong industry knowledge, a wealth of ideas and enthusiasm but needs help in channelling his knowledge when he comes to speak to clients

Could anyone suggest any training courses that may be suitable?

Many thanks,

Serena

  1. Lots of options

    Hi Serena,

I read your brief but come back to you with some questions to claify your needs further. Can you advise what your colleague’s role is? Can you advise who his/her clients are? Has he/she had any formal business training previously? When you talk about planning and strategy needs – are they in relation to your colleague helping their client with their planning needs or for your colleague personally to be more strategic in their outlook?

Planning and strategy modules are typically taught as part of an MBA programme but there are lots of strategic planning programmes on offer for execs from business schools such as Cranfield (http://www.som.cranfield.ac.uk/som/p13465/Programmes-and-Executive-Development/OEP-Home) and Ashridge (http://www.ashridge.org.uk/Website/Content.nsf/wOPN/Open+Enrolment+Programmes?opendocument). Jolly expensive though (£10k-£20k)

I see this as less of a training need, more of need for a Business Coach to walk your colleague through typical planning models like SWOT analysis or Porter’s five force – but put in the context of the Media industry. (Happy to offer my services!)

In addition, you/ they could also buzz the European Case Clearing House (http://www.ecch.com/?CFID=780011&CFTOKEN=69c394cedc607199-9374E59D-E0CA-A997-C332274383A91DDD) which stores hundreds of business case studies. One can search using ‘strategy’ and ‘media’ as search options and I am sure there will be a dozen or so relevant cases. The cases can be purchased for £15-20 each. Reading such relevant cases may help them understand planning & strategy for their industry.

Email me if you need further support.

    Yours

  2. Planning and Measurement courses

    Hi Serena

Abdi ltd are running an ROI Foundation Certificate course on the 28-29th January 2010 which is specifically tailored for the broadcasting sector and is designed to teach individuals the tools to effectively plan, measure and evaluate.

As you operate within the media industry this may be of interest to you. However if this is not appropriate we can also offer tailored in house training programmes to suit our individual client’s needs. To find out more visits http://www.abdi.eu.com or email info@abdi.eu.com

    kind regards

    Angela

  3. Thank you for your feedback….

    Ranjit,

    Thank you for your response.

In answer to your questions, my colleauges role is Mobile Strategist. His role as Mobile Strategist is dedicated to the research, development and implementation of mobile into our clients digital strategy.  As I said previously he is very knowledgable in his field but needs help in translating his experience into a viable strategy for the clients that he works with.  He currently works with a range of private sector clients.

    Angela,

Thank you for your response.  Although we are a New Media Agency we are more in the web design & development, creative end of the spectrum rather than broadcasting so I am not sure that the course would be particularly relevant for us.
