Hi There

I have only just started the Masters degree in Personnel and Development and as I have never studied at this level before I am starting to worry - My first assignment was handed to me last week with a deadline of 2 weeks time, my assignment is to undertake an audit of both the industry and the Macro-Environment  (organisation of my choice) indicating the likely major environmental influences to be faced over the next five years, this needs to be in the style of a management report - I have a topic "digital sigange" - but I am so confused over the conflicting infomation I have recieved on how the report should be laid out....I would be ever so grateful if someone could give me a helping hand or even email a sample report as I do not seem to be able to find one on google.

Kind regard

  1. Management Report

I’m a bit concerned about your question as I have an expectation that someone undertaking study at masters level should already know how to write a management report, either having done so as part of the requirements of a job or from previous study necesary to gain entry to a qualification at this level.

There are numerous sites giving advice on how to structure a report and, whilst you say you’re confused at the conflicting advice, that’s probably because the format is likely to vary depending on the purpose of the report. Is it purely about giving a position statement, are you expected to include options for action and make recommendations?

You need to speak to your tutor who will no doubt be able to advise you and point you in the direction of previous reports you can use as a guide. What you can’t expect them to give you is the end product of someone else’s work.

Studying at this level is tough and a major part of the learning will come from researching and analysing often conflicting information, drawing conclusion from the research and making informed recommendations based on your understanding, very seldom will the answers be sitting neatly packaged.

The hardest part of the any assignment is starting it, so just start researching the subject and I think you’ll find the content and structure of the report will become a lot clearer

  2. Thank you
    Thank you Julie

I have only studied at level 5 (ILM) which is not structured in the same way.

I started researching and what you are saying makes sense – I will just have to see how it comes out.

Thank you for taking the time to get back to me.

    Regards
