PowerPoint advanced course content

default-16x9

Next week, I am due to train our PowerPoint advanced course. The problem is that, as delegate's basic IT/PowerPoint skills have advanced, our intro and advanced courses have become quite similar. I don't feel that I'm able to give people real benefit from the advanced course, and we just seem to go over topics they have done before or are quite familiar with.

Can anybody suggest some topics or exercises that would enhance an advanced PowerPoint course and give it a bit of the 'wow' factor.

Many thanks, Laurie

  1. use PowerPoint add ons
I would look at 3D enhancements with software such as Perspector. Also cover areas that are not just PowerPoint but general for presentations. The use of colour to set mood, the choice of fonts etc. In practicals change colours to green and purple, blue and cyan orangeand red and discuss how this makes them feel.

  2. Beyond Bullet Points
I would recommend taking a look at this book:

    Beyond Bullet Points
    Cliff Atkinson
    Microsoft Press (2005)
    ISBN 0-7356-2052-0

The author is a popular speaker/consultant on how to transform your presentations so that they really motivate an audience and achieve their objectives.

Having read this book, for me, an advanced PowerPoint course should not just be about using more of the software features, but actually developing presentations that work.
