Role plays for absence management training

default-16x9

I’m in the process of putting together training on absence management which will cover the return to work interview, a formal absence management meeting and a potential dismissal meeting. Does anyone have any examples of role plays in this area which they are willing to share with me.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  1. Absence management role plays

    Hi Claire

I like to give every ‘manager’ the same brief (general performance of the employee, previous absences, etc) but with each ‘employee’ having a different underlying issue, which tests the manager’s ability to get to the root of the problem.
E.g. underlying reasons for being absence might be:

    • Feeling hung over or very tired as playing in a band late into the evening
    • Having to tend to a sick relative or hospital visits for a personal (potential) long term ailment – which they don’t want to talk about
    • Depressed as unhappy in their job and taking time out to look for something else

Each of these 3 scenarios may call for a different response and level of support from the manager, and illustrates to the group the importance of getting to the root cause.

    Hope this helps

  2. A role play scenario on absence management

    Hi Claire

I have a role play scenario consisting of a pair of A4 briefs for manager and staff member to role play a back to work interview. It has a twist (if the manager is patient enough with the team member) written into the staff member brief. Download at http://www.abctrainingsolutions.biz/management_skills_free_download.html and scroll to top resource: ‘Absence Management Role Play’. Please use/amend to fit your needs.

    Hope that helps
