Setting objectives

default-16x9

am undergoing my CIPD Postgraduate diploma in HRD and have to lead a lead seminar for a period of 30 minutes - on the importance of setting objectives. As this is assessed and more formal than a training session - has anyone got any quick exercises that i could utilise?

  1. SMART
    Hi Sarah,

It depends on your target qudience but I have recently run some sessions for first line people managers which included setting SMART objectives. It is amazing the amount of people who use SMART but don’t understand it. So the exercise I run first gets the group to break down a workshop objective for example ‘By the end of this workshop you will be able to spot two 5 star coaching opportunities’ then get them to work out which elements are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound. Once they grasp it they then work in pairs to write their own SMART objective that they will work to after the session. Let me know if you it helps or you want to chat it through.

    Cheers
