PRESS LAUNCH - 11 OCTOBER 1999
Press release details-
"There’s no doubt that the pressured world of ‘top flight’ football, as with many other professional sports, places extraordinary demands on its managers. We believe that we can learn from them, particularly those select few who have achieved unparalleled excellence.
Following a lecture Sir Alex Ferguson gave on motivation and leadership, filmed by EBC at Nottingham Business School in February 1999, we were inspired to create a learning resource which would share some of the secrets of his unique management philosophy.
Whilst the lecture was the foundation for this product, we needed a deeper insight into his management thinking. In a rare opportunity to interview him about non-football related matters, we explored his views on managing people away from the pitch.
By no means is all his thinking akin to ‘received management wisdom’ – this is a driven man who has achieved unprecedented success for Manchester United by using his innate man-management instincts without recourse to advisors and manuals. Some of his views will challenge your thinking and perhaps encourage you to examine current practices. There is little doubt they have worked for him.
The challenge was to ensure the product didn’t become a chronicle of Manchester United and Sir Alex’s achievements. EBC applied its considerable experience as a management learning resources developer to ensure that the viewer learns the facts about his techniques in a business context.
‘Knowing The Score’ is a cost effective resource which can be used to motivate and stimulate discussion amongst your management team. The 30 minute video is both informative and entertaining (sporting success creates enthusiasm amongst us all) and the supporting materials help to transform the knowledge acquired into new behaviours and techniques in the workplace.
It comprises an easy blend of business thinking and football anecdote. It will not only educate – it will also entertain you!
‘KNOWING THE SCORE’ IS PRICED AT £195 + VAT, AND IS AVAILABLE FROM EBC ON 0161 248 3525. ALTERNATIVELY, VISIT OUR WEBSITE AT http://www.ebc.co.uk
