Skills/Competency assessment on-line

default-16x9

I work for a large commercial law firm which employs around 250 trainee solicitors around the country. I am looking for ways in which they can manage their own skills development more effectively than they do now, preferably on-line.
There are skills they need to develop over a 2 year period and certain types of work they need to undertake. There are Law Society standards and checklists - they currently have to keep paper based training records and diaries. There is no need for them to have on-line courses available but knowledge sharing would be something I am keen to promote.
I'd be interested to hear how other organisations are using on-line management systems to track skills development of graduates.

  1. Develop this good idea?
We’re part of a multi-site national training facility, also within the criminal justice system.
We use paper portfolios to assess learning on our courses. We have some staff who can advise on the use of electronic portfolios to demonstrate competence.
It is also be possible to assess other skills/ competencies on line eg some CD ROMS have assessment failities built-in. I guess the issue is about making its development cost-effective, and linking it with appraisal. We have a national project looking at this area, and the NTO will also be identifying skills/ standards for us.
I’d be interested in developing this idea with you.
