Statistics of people using the Internet in Britain

Research compiled by MMXI Europe about use of the internet in Britain, identified that children were taking to the net much more rapidly than adults. Reasons stated for this was that the growth in the number of sites available for children has increased and to complement this, so has their computing knowledge.

Followed by this, Men still make more use of the internet than women, but women are slowly catching up. In October 1999, 34.9% of women were using the internet at home, compared with 54.4% of men. In September 2000, the percentage had increased to 36.1% for women and fallen to 49.2% for men.

Three million people joined the internet between October 1999 to September 2000 and in September 11 million people, a fifth of the population were using the internet from home.
