    Simon,
    Not a small area! You could look at AGILE or iterative development practices (e.g RUP). For other standards/frameworks – PMI/APM/ITIL/BCS

    I’ve just noticed you’re “higher level” heading and would ask the head of the department “What is your current process/framework for developing software? How is governance carried out? Do you already have any required documentation like Business Case, Initiation documents, Report formats etc
