Technical / Systems Training

default-16x9

Hello All,

I’ve been tasked with designing and delivering training to finance specialists (accountants and procurement specialists) and non financial specialists (end users/budget holders) for our re-launched finance system (which hasn’t had the best press of recent times).

I’m looking for innovative training materials/games/ideas (I do have a budget!) that can be used to deliver this system and process knowledge in order to re-engage the users of the system and to make the training a little less dry, and also to provide an element of interaction with delegates. My background is fundamentally in soft skills training as appose to systems and process so any ideas/suggestions you have would be extremely gratefully received.

Very many thanks in anticipation for your input!

  1. Systems training
    Hi Claire,

Re-engaging disenchanted users is quite a challenge.

May I ask how you plan to deliver this training…will it be an online experience or face-to-face?

    Best regards,

    David

  2. Systems Training
Hi, I was involved in the roll out of a new business system approx 18 months. This was challenging in the same ways as you have described. It involved users spending a week in a training room where the primary business objective was to ensure that users could use the system. Very dry!!If you drop me a mail I’m happy to discuss some of the things that we did to try to inject some energy and enthusiasm.

  3. Suggestion ..
Hi Claire, you may want to think about using a fictitious company which making a product and base the course around buying parts and handling the finance side of things, maybe something like building a sports car.

  4. Response to David
    Hi David,

Thanks for your interest. I plan on delivering this via a classroom session initially. With some emphasis on coaching once ‘formal’ delivery has taken place…

  5. Blended solution
    Hello Claire,

We have delivered solutions to some of our clients in similar situations. Our solutions have been based on a blended solution focused around a scenario. Using tools which we supply (or consultancy services) we delivered a range of high quality e-learning interventions which were combined with the classroom training. The e-learning interventions then acted as a reference resource post training.
If you would like to discuss in more detail please let me know. My direct line is 0191 2263543.

  6. Training material
We usually find accountants to be at a cross road between knowing soft skills and IT skills, pretty much half and half. Both are quite important in their workplace.

I suggest knowledge management techniques and games. These will be useful for them as they have to use their IT skills but also know how to communicate with a wide range of people from clients to colleagues to managers. We use many exercises in regard with subjects such as effective communications in our training materials.

    Thanks
