The most read & commented TrainingZone articles in 2016

istock-498910514

2016 was a busy year for TrainingZone, with the departure of our long-serving editor Jon Kennard in January, followed by several new content series, contributors and developments in the industry, so we thought it was time to take stock and look at some of the most popular features, blogs and discussions on the site in the past 12 months.

Feel free to share your thoughts about the articles we've listed in the comments below, or share any other blogs, videos and resources you've found useful or interesting in the past year.

Most read: OD and L&D - the space in the middle is where we meet

What's the difference between OD and L&D, and does it even matter? This was the question posed and answered by one of our Twitter favourites Meg Peppin, and generated a lot of conversation across the site and our social media channels. A great thought-provoking piece - we'd love to hear your thoughts on how you think the specialisms differ or converge.

Most commented: Training doesn't work...there, I said it!

Robin Hoyle is at his best in this feature where he dissects some of the common criticisms levelled at training effectiveness. Are we measuring or studying it properly? How can we make sure that training makes as much impact as possible? And what actually constitutes 'bad' training?

Popular series: Busting learning myths with neuroscience

This 8-part series from Jan Hills proved as contentious as it was popular. You all seemed quite divided on the subject of neuroscience and how it can be applied to learning, but whether you agree with all of the articles or not, they make for fascinating reading - from learning styles to creating a brain-savvy L&D strategy

Most shared: New roles for L&D - the reality of 70:20:10

There's a lot of confusion and misconceptions surrounding the 70:20:10 model, and this article from Charles Jennings aims to set the record straight. This proved to be particularly popular on Twitter and Facebook - again with some mixed opinions from our readers!

Most heated discussion: What should a training function be in the 21st century?

A great question from one of our longest-serving members Rus Slater which really resounded with our members - how can we make sure as much learning goes on as possible within an organisation? How much of a role does the classroom play? Have a scroll through the responses, and add your own thoughts and experiences to the thread!

Best blog: There's nothing artificial about intelligence

One of our most regular bloggers Derek Bishop penned this piece about the opportunities for innovation, creativity and learning that will come from the increase in AI at work. A nice optimistic post to counter a lot of the negative sentiment surrounding this emerging technology!

Popular webinar: How do we start, and continue, the learning journey for new employees?

We really enjoyed this chatty webinar with Donald H Taylor and our editor Jamie Lawrence, with some useful questions and advice on creating the best possible onboarding process for your employees.
