The training cycle: Delivering training

Much has been written about this stage of the training cycle - TrainingZONE itself contains a wealth of articles with suggestions for delivering a particular form of training in a certain way, or the merits of different delivery mechanisms.

Broadly speaking, training delivery takes a number of forms:

  • Classroom based
  • One-to-one coaching and mentoring
  • Outdoor programmes - often termed 'experiential learning'
  • E-learning - computer based, internet, intranet or CD Rom-driven
  • Use of books or videos
  • Group-based or supported work-based learning, through action learning or other vocational qualifications
  • Often, a combination of methods is used, giving rise to the term 'blended learning'.

Some of these are more suited to particular types of training than others - for example, training in computer packages lends itself best to e-learning, while interpersonal development is generally percieved to be better delivered through the classroom, on a one-to-one basis or through outdoor approaches. TrainingZONE's Training Trends surveys have examined these issues on a yearly basis - click here for more details.

Many of TrainingZONE's members are involved with training delivery, and the Any Answers archive contains a wealth of advice and experience members have shared when planning to undertake training.
