  1. Foundation Certificate in Training Delivery Skills
    Dear Bob

Inevitably, the core training team is often reliant on others to transfer knowledge and skills to the business units. This may involve seconding subject matter experts like your shop floor representative – selected on the basis of their expertise rather than on their training ability – to deliver the training to their peers.

Whilst this is a small, yet vitally important part of their role, those seconded for these tasks deserve recognition and professional development by being properly prepared. This will have the added benefits of the resulting training programme meeting trainingand/or business objectives and being delivered to a consistently high standard.

The Trainer Assessment Programme (TAP) incorporates a series of courses and skills certifications for Subject Matter Experts in a Training Role.

You will find further details at:

    http://www.tap-training.com/page/roles/occasional.html

The two day course leading to the TAP Foundation Certificate in Training Delivery skills would be seem ideal for your shop floor colleague.

Once the issue of training skills has been addressed you can then focus your own attention on ensuring that the machine related skills and knowledge transferred by this individual meets best practice standards.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

  2. training or coaching?
    Hi Bob
If the person concerned is likely to be training one-on-one then you may want to look at a “manager as a coach” type approach with learning style and some planning underpinning knowledge.

In the dark old days the Skills Training Agency used to do a 4 day course for this very role but I am now aware of a modern replacement!
