Training Spend VS Salary Cost

default-16x9

I represent a financial Institution based in the GCC (Middle East) and am trying to find out if there is any data available on deciding an annual budget for "Training Spend" as a percentage of "Annual Salary / Payroll" for Financial Institutions. The information not be specific for any region since we are looking to see if there are any trends in the global "Best Practices".

I want to clarify here that our budgets will be based on planned initiatives with built in buffers for unplanned learning initiatives that may come up during the year, but we want to understand if our final numbers are in line with industry standards worldwide.

I would really appreciate any help we can get get on this.

Regards,

Zakir

  1. Thank you

    Dear Angela,

Thank you for the suggestion. I did go to their website and was even able to find a link to their survey (link below) but it requires a subscription and you have to based in UK to subscribe .Alas, so close but yet so far (literally)…:-)

Nevertheless, thank you once again for the suggestion.

  2. Average?

    Hi Zakir

I normally expect to invest 5% of my salary on Training and this has been the case in at least 3 organisations I have worked for.

There are so many factors to take into account I’m not sure if research would help as it entirely depends on what you do and what you want to achieve?

    Good luck

    Steve

  3. Thank You

    Dear Steve and Angela,

Thank you both for your help. Coincidentally, our figures are working out to roughly 5%. I now know we are on the right track!!.

    Regards,

    Zakir

  4. In a world of reducing budgets

I wonder how many organisations are spending that in cash terms?

More of a question is how many organisations are offering that in time terms?  If the ownership of the learning rests with the individual, for a staff member who works a 38 hour week, that is the equivalent of almost 99 hours a year in training, learning and development.
