If your welcome back to work after your summer holiday involved
an over-loaded inbox and a mountain of paperwork, you may have
some sympathy with the respondents to the latest Investors in
People survey - 60% of whom said they dreaded the return to
work.

But while the survey paints a picture of a workforce that feels
demotivated and under-valued, nearly half cited the chance to
improve their skills at work as a productivity booster.

Speaking of being valued, a second study this week suggests that
training is gaining greater credit from workers. The research by
ORC International found that two-thirds of employees felt
satisfied with the training received in their present jobs - the
highest number for five years.
