Inorder to set up a successful sponsorship scheme I need to ascertain what is best practise and am finding it incredibly difficult to find the informtion. Everyone seem cloak and dagger - so if you can help me with some basic principals or guidelines - I would be must grateful - thanks

  1. Mixed success
In the organisation where I used to work we set up a sponsorship scheme and I learnt a lot from the experience. I have to say looking back over the three years we ran it we have to admit to it being only a moderate success.

The background is that we needed to get good quality graduates to come and work for us when due to the nature of the work they would do for the first few years we could not pay them as much as they could earn in another profession. In order to try and stop them defecting to other parts of the profession so as to earn more money in those early years we decided we had to do something to reduce their financial burden. This was the reason for offering a generous sponsorship payment to cover the last part of their University course.

In return we asked them to come and work for us in their summer holiday and were paid generously for those weeks. This gave us the advantage of seeing them work and having a much better idea of whether we would want to employ them than we could ever get from a selection centre or simple interview.

I would be happy to talk this through in more detail if it sounds as if I could help.
