Updating Training Materials

default-16x9

We have over 100 different training packages (which include training manuals, PowerPoint presentations, aide memoirs etc) that require updating on a regular basis.

What is the best method to do this, for example do you get the trainers to do the updates or administrative staff?

Any suggestions would be gratefully welcome!

  1. Get some-one else to do it
In answer to your question about who should update training materials in my experience :-

Admin staff are not ideal, most of the time they are too far distanced from the actual desired content of the materials.

Trainers are not ideal either because they tend to not be able to ‘see’ the detail, because they are too close to the content.

I have found the best solution is to either employ an external consultant or employ in-house ‘Super Users’ to carry out the process.

Whatever you decide to do, get as many people to proof the materials as possible, before you release them.

If you need more help/advice etc contact me on mail@angelaholroyd.co.uk and we can take it from there.

PS: I have been in this situation many times and guess who ended up making the changes – ??? me !.

  2. trainers!
I think it depends on what sort of training you’re talking about. If it is high volume, sheepdip stuff – busy trainers probably can’t do it easily. However, if the trainer isn’t involved in the upgrade – they’d have to relearn the content with all those questions like “why is this changed?”. My view overall is the trainer’s role should include upgrading/improving content continuously as they’re at the sharp end anyway. I think design/redesign of training material is part of the trainer preparation process anyway, so that they breathe the subject more fluently.
