Video clip for Minuting Meetings course

default-16x9

I'm running a Minuting Meetings course soon and am looking for a 5 min video clip I can use for delegates to experience a "real" meeting.  I've looked on i-player as I expected to find something useful on Question Time or similar, but no joy.  I've also trawled U-Tube with similarly disappointing results.  I'd love to hear from you f you have a specific link to a suitable video clip!

Many thanks for reading.

  1. Some alternatives…

You could try the parliament channel which usually broadcasts public committee hearings. Easy enough to record and use. The content should be suitably ‘meeting-like’ and also recreate the torpor of the dullest possible meeting in which delegates’ minute-taking skills will be pushed to the brink. As a bit of a wacky alternative, why not use a clip from a comedy panel show? It roughly has a ‘meeting’ format with structured rules for each round and as the panelists toss in their contributions your delegates can minute their offerings. Would be quite fun to have them read back and circulate their minuted notes. Mock the Week, Have I Got News for You etc…

  2. Taking Minutes at Meetings

    Hi there

Some years ago, I used videos of meetings produced by London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which were produced for shorthand examinations.  It may be worth seeing if you can get hold of any of these.  I gave my copies away some time ago; otherwise I’d have offered them to you.

However, I found that what worked better was to get the participants to hold a meeting instead.  I get them to agree an agenda (can be things like Christmas Party, Car Parking, Security Badges).  The agenda needs clear outcomes.  I then chair the meeting and ask them to take minutes of the proceedings, which they then write up afterwards.  The meeting can be as long or as short as you like (could be just one agenda item!)  Many Minute Takers have to participate in a meeting as well as having to take minutes, so this is good practice.

    I hope this helps.

  3. Make it fun!

    Hi there

I use the meetings clip from Ocean’s Eleven – with George Clooney, Brad Pitt and co talking about how they will undertake the heist. The ladies generally love it – and the men find it quite entertaining, too.  It adds a light touch to a fairly dry subject.
