Vocational Training Relief to end with the introduction of Individual Learning Accounts

The Inland Revenue has announced that Vocational Training Relief (VTR) will end with the introduction of Individual Learning Accounts (ILAs) on 31 August.

VTR is a form of tax relief currently available to individuals who pay for certain costs of their own vocational training. It will continue for payments made by learners up until the 31 August, when it will be abolished along with the Extra Statutory Concession, which gives relief in certain circumstances for employees training costs are being withdrawn.

People can open a learning account now (for learning they want to do in September or later) can request an application pack electronically on the DfEE site or ring the Individual Learning Accounts Centre on 0800 072 5678. Anyone arranging learning activities before September should contact their local TEC.

The DfEE have published an online newsletter giving details of the latest progress on ILAs.
