Nursery does sound rather patronising, and I’d avoid academy as that is best used for a more all encompassing approach to learning in the organisation (http://www.predaptive.com/learning_academies.htm)
How about ‘Base Camp’ implying that they’re starting on a big adventure?

‘Evolution Bay’
At a previous company we created an ‘Evolution Bay’ which was the stepping stone between the training environment within a contact centre and the contact centre floor itself.
All new telephone based employees would spend two weeks here and would have an intensive coaching programme designed to consolidate their learning so far.
I trust this is of some help and wish you every success in the future.
