Where can I find effective/energetic leadership development activities?

default-16x9

Does anyone have any details of effective and energetic activities for a leadership development programme. The subjects I shall be covering for the next couple of sessions are human behaviour, leadership behaviour, and plenty of discussion on the basic principles of leadership. I am obviously using a variety of methods for this training, but would like some suggestions on how to make this very theoretical part of the programme more practical. Every suggestion is welcome!

  1. Explore Learning to Lead & The Leadership Engine
In the book, Learning to Lead : The Art of Transforming Managers into Leaders by Jay Conger, the author documented his “under-cover” experiential journey through 5 top-notch leadership training organisations in USA. There are snippets of actual exercises which he & other participants went through. I reckon this will be a very good resource for your leadership training material. Also, the book by Noel Tichy, The Leadership Engine: How Winning Companies Build Leaders at Every Level, will definitely give you many excellent – also latest thinking in leadership issues in the real business world – background material for your program design. In this book, the author also illustrated some of his leadership training methods with General Electric. Both authors are well recognised in the field of leadership matters.

  2. please look at our web site – mta-international.com
We have a full range of interative training activities in both teamworking and leadership. If you look on our web site – mta-international.com and look for the MTa MAXI.. This package focusses specifically on leadership development. There are 4 different activities all looking at different aspects of leadership – all are effective and energetic and all concentrate on relating the learning back into the workplace. If you would like to get a brochure just send me an e-mail.

  3. leadership games
Helen I’ve used activities from a book by Stephen Kaagan called Leadership Games he has assembled 25 “games” participatory exercises around different aspects of leadership eg Risking Innovation, Fostering Collaboration, Managing conflict, using diversity etc.I’ve used a few and they have worked well, you have to be selective and the benefit is derived as much from the debrief which is usually harder, but overalla good source of ideas
