Researcher IDC experts have stated that by the end of 2001, Windows 2000 will account for around 71% of sales which the Professional version being the strongest application because of its support for new hardware technologies such as plug and play. At the end of this year sales figures are estimated at around 40%

They also stated that most organisations are now confident that most of the bugs have been resolved within the software and because of the new hardware technologies that this version offers over NT Workstation 4.0, such as universal serial bus, advanced power management and plug and play, make it a more attractive option that really works.

Windows 2000 Server addition has not been as fast as the uptake to Professional, IDC estimate that currently this month about 35% are Windows Server sales, however they envisage this will increase to around 56% of total Windows server sales by the end of 2001.

Most of the transition to Windows 2000 are taking place now and will continue over the next 18 months.
