Feedback skills

I am looking for alternative models, theories and exercises for Feedback skills (other than Johari's Window).

Any suggestions would be remarkably welcome.

  1. Exercise to demonstrate different types of feedback
    Andy, I may have the wrong end of the stick but:

    1 Ask for 4 volunteers – tell them that they just have to do a very simple drawing.

    2 Give each volunteer a blank sheet of A4 paper.

    3 Also give them a briefing sheet as follows:

    Thank you for agreeing to participate in this simple role play.

    You have 2 simple roles.

    A Take 2 minutes to draw a simple diagram of a house on the attached piece of paper; don’t worry if you feel that your artistic abilities are limited – it doesn’t matter for this activity.

    B Listen while I give feedback to each of you in turn – just play along with anything I say or do – if I say or do anything that you would normally object to – just ignore me or laugh.

    4 After 2 minutes ask them to stop, then give each person feedback.

    1st – Thank the person for doing the drawing but don’t look at it – say how pleased you were that they agreed to do it, they made the exercise so much easier etc.

    2nd – Examine the drawing and give very positive feedback, ask what they would have added given more time or what they might have done better, then end with very positive feedback (the “praise sandwich”).

    3rd – Examine the drawing then give very negative criticism to the point of being rude and possibly sarcastic.

    4th – Ignore that person completely.

    5 Ask the group to analyse and discuss the 4 examples of feedback and relate them to incidents in their everyday lives etc.

    6 Thank the volunteers!
