Has anyone used the FISH! principles for training purposes?
What did you do with it and what was the result?

  1. Fish?
    Hi Andrea,

Please post more information. Are you referring to the principles from the “Fish” video(s) to support Customer Service? If so I might be able to help.

  2. Hints and Tips
    Hi John
Yes, I’m interested in how companies have used the FISH! principles for either customer service or general motivation. I’m looking at putting together a 1 day programme for our business and want it to be a success. Any hints and tips will be greatly appreciated.

  3. FISH!
Hi I have used it with employees at all levels for customer care and as part of a major change programme. If you use the video the trainers notes are useful but it is also worthwhile reading the books – Fish and Fish Tales – senior people, especially, like real life examples. Maybe it’s a British thing but the only element that people have difficulty in grasping is ‘Play’.

  4. What is FISH?
I am embarrassed to admit that I do not know what FISH is or means in this context – – is it a method? an acronym? or a wind up??

Anyone else not know? Who can tell me?
    Thanks :>)

  5. Book review – Fish! Tales: Real-Life Stories to Help You Transfo
I did a search on the ww web and found this on – I hope it helps. – A great book – The real Call Center Elvis-Don Freeman. I’m the General Manager Don Freeman that this book “Fish Tales” refers to in one full chapter who worked for Sprint. The great thing about the book Fish is that it outlines in detail what we were already trying to do. It defined it in a way that assisted us in bringing a greater level of understanding and participation for all our employees. “Fish Tales” now brings it to a level showing it works and can be adapted in many different work groups. I implemented it in our call center and dressing as Elvis was something I had done before Fish. This books helped me legitimize my crazy personality!. It was fun.. The great thing about this book is that you can see in Fish Tales that you have to find your own employee culture and way of making the FISH PHILOSOPHY work in your Company or Department. It will depend on the type of work being done, product and location in the country.
In this book the four points to the philosophy are repeated.
The four key points of the philosophy are: 1 Play – have fun and create energy at home or at the office. 2 Make their day – how can you engage fellow employees, customers and make each other’s day? 3 Be Present – How can you make sure you are fully available and aware during conversations with people? It is about create a greater sense of intimacy between individuals. 4 Choose Your Attitude – Each day you choose how you are going to act or which “side of the bed” you wake up on. The choice is yours and, the way you act, affects others.

Where this book differs is the following:
    > They provide REAL WORLD examples of how companies have implemented the FISH! Philosophy. I personally felt as though the first book was HIGHLY deficient in that sector.
    > They interview senior managers who convey that they must “practice what they preach” and be committed to the program.
    > They show real world examples of how employees began trusting managers and how critical it is in the whole process.
    > They give you a 12-week roadmap to success. I believe this is critical to the success of implementing such a philosophy

  6. FiSH underpinned our Cultural Change programme and lives on 3 y
As part of the creation of a new culture following a merger we used FiSH as an integral part of our transformation activities.
Having everyone from CEO to part time temp really buy into the key concepts of ‘Commit to the Vision’ ‘Be It’ and ‘Coach It’ has really worked.
FiSH is not a book, or a video, or a ‘programme. For us it is a way of working – a way of living that is applied in all aspects of work.
Don’t read the book or watch the video – unless you are really prepareed to Be It.

  7. fish
i am with a company for 4 months now and fish is their driving tool to success.
it will only be a useful tool if you buy into it.

i have used it with success.

  8. FISH for Success

We have used the FISH principals with great success for team building – we run it as a 1/2 day session with teams and managers attending and then do follow up sessions to ensure that it is being utilised. Good luck!
