How would I bill?

default-16x9

Hi everyone,

Just wondering,..... I have been tasked to do job descriptions for a farming company. Obviously the lower graded jobs would be easier and less time consuming; Would it be ok for me to charge a certain fee per job level i.e. for  instance grade A1 employees 5 per job description, A2=10, A3=15 etc and once i get to management level a set fee? It is difficult to quote an hourly rate as I really don't know how long this take.

Do you think my approach my be acceptable?

Kind regards,

Fiona

  1. Do you have a process?

    Hi Fiona,

You don't say in your question, but I am assuming that you have a process for grading the jobs.

I would look at the process and from that estimate the amount of time required for each role, accounting as you suggest for higher level roles being more in depth. This would give you an estimated length of time for each role and thus a total.

You could alternatively pick an example from the lowest and highest grade and work through them to find out the range of work involved and use a linear scale for timing the other grades.

Both of these techniques are estimates though, which might cost you dearly if you underestimate.

If you have a good relationship with the client then you could set a day rate, and agree to charge by the day until the work is complete. This would be the most accurate since it would be calculated after the fact.

    Good luck!

    Adam
