Subject: HRD-l:Management Sponsorship Program
I am looking for ideas on a Management Sponsor Program. This would be for newly hired managers. The concept is to assign a sponsor to the new manager. The sponsor would follow-up with the new manager on a weekly basis. Ensure that he/she is adjusting and assist where they many need help. For the first month they will be responsible to write a report on what they have observed and learned.
Is anyone doing this currently? If yes, how is it working? How is your program written?
Bruce.

Sponsor/mentor programmes
The Coaching & Mentoring Network is a web-based resource which may be able to help you. There are many organisations who have implemented management-team (and company-wide) mentoring programmes. We will be happy to put you in touch with either these organisations or professional coaches and mentors who have experience of designing and implementing such schemes.
You may also find some of the articles on the website to be of use.

Let the mentee be accountable….
Bruce,
I highly recommend that the new managers be encouraged first to clarify the business related benefit they expect to create by entering the mentoring relationship, and second that they themselves determine who they would need as mentor. After all the usual system of allocating senior people to play mentor just results in the passing on of current myths and habits, which may not be useful for the future. It is also more beneficial for the mentee not to be able to blame the mentor for future failure to deliver !!
Just a couple of thoughts,
Happy New Year,
