Matching learners

default-16x9

Does anybody have experience of using personality/psycometric tests to facilitate enhanced learning by matching learners/clients profiles with those of a coach/tutor in an online learning environment?

I really would be grateful to hear if you have any thoughts,

  1. Matching coach & client/coachee

    Hi Chris

You ask a good question -and I would love to follow the responses you receive.

We do quite a number of matching exercises (not for on-line learning, but for face to face coaching sessions) and I am constantly looking for ways to improve this, so if there is a best practice I would want to know.

We can match on the basis of age, gender, race, language, culture, experience. We also match like with unlike, in the belief that working with some one very different to yourself will open new perspectives….. We have used Kolb’s Learning Styles Inventory as a tool – matching a diverger with a converger leads to interesting conversations.

I think a critical issue is complexity… can the coach work at the client’s level of complexity – and I have yet to find a good way to assess this. Elliot Jacques (sp?) has developed a tool.

And, it seems, matching oftn depends on what is called "chemistry" – maybe intuition? We develop and attraction (or repulsion) based on subconscious conclusions…..

    Looking to learn more!

    Cheers
