New Qualification in Disability Awareness

default-16x9

The first qualification in disability awareness has been launched to help employers comply with legislation.

The level 1 'Award in Disability Awareness', from awarding body Education Development International (EDI), was created due to requests from many organisations who were anxious to ensure they fully complied with current legislation.

Until this point, no occupational standards for disability awareness have been available for employers and employees.

Nigel Snook, chief executive of EDI, said: "This award has proved to be immensely popular. We have had interest from a wide range of sectors: government agencies, utility companies, call centres and bus and coach companies. Employers realise that they need to know about their duties and responsibilities, and improve access to their services for disabled people."

The new qualification consists of a multiple choice test and can be completed either online or by using a paper-based version. Content includes the meaning of disability and impairment, disability rights and the language of disability.
